Bachelor
School of Law, Sydney Campus
Accredited by the New South Wales Legal Profession Admission Board, our Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) is a career-focused degree that can be completed in three years of accelerated full-time study rather than the usual four years. Upon graduation, you will be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in New South Wales and all other Australian jurisdictions pending the completion of relevant practical legal training.
The program is open to applicants who have a recognised Bachelor's degree (Level 7 AQF) in any discipline.
The Bachelor of Laws degree is an accredited degree for admission to legal practice. It combines excellent coverage of underlying legal and ethical principles with an explanation of how those principles are applied in legal practice. In recent years some law schools have decided not to offer a Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) degree and instead offer a Juris Doctor degree. If you study either degree at an accredited law school they will be recognised for admission to legal practice, but there can be significant differences in the fees charged for these two forms of degree.
Our students find attending Notre Dame's School of Law a very rewarding and enjoyable experience:
The Law classes are small (an average class size of 31 for the last few years) and there is excellent access to academics outside of class. Inspired by the caring Catholic ethos which runs through the School of Law, academics are committed to quality teaching and providing excellent pastoral care to each student. The university aims to give each student every opportunity to fulfill their potential as a student and be inspired to go out into the community and really make a difference.
Unlike many other law degrees across Australia, our Bachelor of Laws is an immensely practical program. Boasting a particular focus on the basic buildings blocks of the law (otherwise known as the "Priestley 11"), you will develop a wide range of practical skills as taught by practising legal professionals. Through our mentoring program, courtroom visits, mooting, internship programs, students are provided with multiple opportunities to experience the law in practice. Furthermore, you cultivate such skills including public speaking, advocacy, alternative dispute resolution, and commercial practice.
The Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) degree requires the completion of five courses per semester in the first two years, and four subjects per semester in your final year.
The following careers are open to graduates of this program:
