About this course

Are you a health professional looking to refresh and develop your skills?

2024 Dates: 17th June, 2nd December
Time: 8:30am - 4:30pm (AWST)
Cost: $295 (incl. GST)
CPD: 8-16 hours
Location: Fremantle Campus, WA

The course aims to provide the participants with a theoretical and practical understanding of trauma basics in nursing, concentrating on applying a systematic approach towards the care and management of a patient with a trauma-related presentation in the Emergency Department. The theoretical understanding is consolidated with demonstration and supervised practice of relevant tasks and procedures in a clinical skills laboratory including trauma assessment, pelvic binder application, use of arterial limb tourniquets, blood product administration and haemostatic pharmacology. The course does not determine competency or utilise human participants for simulation practice. The course is designed as a precursor to facility-based, supervised assessments where competency is determined locally and aligned with local procedures and practices. The course focus is aligned with the Australian National Safety and Quality Health Service Standard 8: Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration.

The course consists of eight hours of pre-course activities (optional) and an eight-hour face-to-face workshop where skills will be practiced in the simulated environment. Optional pre-course activity access will be provided two weeks in advance. Pre-course activity access and course location details will be emailed to participants approximately two weeks in advance. Pre-course activity access will be deactivated the day after the course.

The course is suitable for any health care professionals exposed to trauma presentations. If you require a refresher in trauma management or do not have any trauma experience and wish to attend, we welcome you.
