The University of Queensland (UQ) Courses

It's possible to complete this degree in 2 years or 1.5 years depending on your qualifications and experience.

You can apply for any duration as long as you meet the entry requirements. You may also be eligible to apply for credit or exemptions to shorten your degree further. You'll graduate with the same qualification no matter how long you take to complete the degree.

To be eligible to complete the degree in 2 years

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, or
• a graduate certificate or graduate diploma or master's degree in any discipline, or
• to have successfully completed 3 years of study towards an approved qualification at an overseas partner institution, with a formal pathway to the Master of Cyber Security.

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

For the Leadership field of study, you'll also need:

• 2 years of supervisory or management experience, such as managing a team or people, client accounts or major projects, resource planning, or direct responsibility for financial delegations.

* Please note that if a graduate certificate (or graduate diploma) from the same program suite is used as the basis of entry into the program and you do not have a degree in the relevant discipline, you will not be eligible for credit towards the Masters program.

If you have relevant prior learning or experience, you can reduce the number of courses you need to complete and graduate in less time.

To be eligible to complete the degree in 1.5 years

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below), or
• a graduate certificate or graduate diploma or master's degree in a relevant discipline (see below).

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

For the Leadership field of study, you'll also need:

• 5 years of supervisory or management experience, such as managing a team or people, client accounts or major projects, resource planning, or direct responsibility for financial delegations.

* Please note that if a graduate certificate (or graduate diploma) from the same program suite is used as the basis of entry into the program and you do not have a degree in the relevant discipline, you will not be eligible for credit towards the Masters program.

Relevant Disciplines depend on the field of study you intend to choose.

• For the Cyber Defence field of study, relevant disciplines include computer science, information technology, computer engineering, mechatronics, electrical and electronic engineering, mathematics or software engineering.
• For the Cyber Criminology field of study, relevant disciplines include sociology, criminology, criminal justice and crime science.
• For the Cryptography field of study, relevant disciplines include mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, actuarial science and information technology.
• For the Leadership field of study, relevant disciplines include commerce, management, business, accounting, information technology, computer science and leadership.

To be eligible for entry, you'll need:

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, with first-year, university-level chemistry or biology, or
• 2 years full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in food science, food technology or food engineering.

Relevant disciplines include advanced sciences, behavioural and social sciences, biomedical sciences, biostatistics, counselling, dentistry and oral health, development studies, environmental health, environmental science, exercise and sport science, food science, health economics, health management, mathematics, medicine and medical sciences, nursing, nutrition, occupational health and safety, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, psychology, public health and health sciences, science, sociology, speech therapy, and veterinary sciences.

To be eligible for entry, you'll need:

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, with at least one course in chemistry and biology, or
• a graduate certificate (or equivalent) in molecular biology.

• To be eligible for admission, a person must have completed the program requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce (or equivalent award), including all courses listed as pre-requisites for entry into honours, with a GPA of at least 5.5 for an approved combination of courses.
• Applicants who completed an equivalent award must demonstrate that an equivalent body of knowledge has been gained to an equivalent standard. Entry to the program for these applicants may be subject to completion of additional work.
• Approval is required from the executive dean where the degree used for entry was completed more than two years prior to program commencement. If enrolment is approved, the executive dean may set conditions.

Relevant work experience includes work in: biotechnology, business, commerce, commercialisation, computer science, data analytics, economics, energy, engineering (business administration), entrepreneurship, environmental management, food sciences, health services/health practitioners, international development or international relations, information systems, innovation, management, science, strategy, sustainability and technology (agricultural, information, nano, bio).

To be eligible for entry, you'll need:

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below) with a GPA of 5.0, or
• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, plus the Graduate Certificate in International Relations from UQ, or the Graduate Certificate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from UQ, or the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies from UQ, with a GPA of 4.0, or
• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline (see below) with a GPA of 5.0, plus 3 years full-time equivalent, relevant work experience (see below).

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below) with a GPA of 5.0, or
• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, plus the Graduate Certificate in International Relations from UQ, or the Graduate Certificate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from UQ, or the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies from UQ, with a GPA of 4.0, or
• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline (see below) with a GPA of 5.0, plus 3 years full-time equivalent, relevant work experience (see below).

Relevant work experience, which should be supported with evidence (see below), may be paid or voluntary and includes:

• work in planning, management and/or implementation of international policy and/or governance initiatives, including work for international organisations, non-governmental organisation, government agencies, social movements, and the international business community, or
• work in a relevant peace and conflict organisation including community organisations, non-governmental organisations, government agencies, or other cognate organisation, that may include work experience in planning, research, management, implementation or evaluation of domestic or international peacebuilding, mediation, conflict resolution, transitional justice and cognate efforts to manage conflict or facilitate peace, and
• a demonstration of computer literacy, research and writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Evidence of relevant work experience should include a letter from your employer (and/or previous employers) stating the following:

• That you work (or worked) within the specified organisation
• The nature of your work, including any relevant duties and responsibilities.
• The length of time that you worked there (i.e. 3 years)
• Whether your employment was full-time, part-time* or casual*.

*if you worked part-time or casual, please list the average number of hours worked per week.
