Applicants must not have previously attempted any tertiary study at diploma level or higher. Recommended prior study is as per the Bachelor of Nutrition. There are limited places available for this provisional entry pathway program. Students must complete SC354 in 3 years and achieve a cumulative program GPA of at least 5.0; the university may withdraw an offer if the student does not enrol in the Master of Dietetics (Sports Nutrition) in the year following completion of the Bachelor of Nutrition program. Students cannot defer their offer of a provisional place for direct entry into the Masters of Dietetics (Sports Nutrition).

Research has shown that the most effective teachers are those who have academic capability, literacy and numeracy skills, and personal characteristics (non-academic capabilities). Entry to this program requires that applicants meet academic and non-academic criteria.

Academic qualifications

You must have completed a non-education bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent, with a minimum GPA of 4.0 from a recognised tertiary institution which includes the equivalent of at least one full-time year of study in areas relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum.

Applicants from a non-English speaking background must attain an IELTS score of at least 7.5 with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and 7.0 in all other subtests. Refer to English language requirements

Personal statement requirement

As part of your application, you are required to complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate your motivation for, and understanding of, the program and profession. In the questionnaire, you will be asked to rank a series of statements in order of what you think is most to least important. You will also need to write a 600-1000 word personal statement on why you think you would make a great teacher, and why influencing the future appeals to you.

During your studies, you must complete a minimum of 60 days of Supervised Professional Experience in a school setting under the supervision of a Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) registered teacher. Find more information on Supervised Professional Experience.

You must obtain a Blue Card (or link your existing Blue Card to USC) prior to commencing Supervised Professional Experience. Applications should be submitted at least 12 weeks prior to the SPE start date. View the Blue Card Fact Sheet for further information. Exemption for first year Mathematics

Students who enter the program having achieved a 'Very High Achievement' in Maths C in secondary school may be eligible for an exemption for the courses MTH103 Introduction to Applied Mathematics and MTH104 Introductory Calculus. Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission:

Applicants must hold a relevant 3-year Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) that contains at least one year, or the equivalent, of full-time studies in social and behavioural sciences. This is the minimum entry requirement as set out by the ASWEAS guidelines (2019).

If an applicant's prior degree has not specifically addressed the above, they may be required to undertake additional foundational study as determined by the School of Social Science (usually the Program Coordinator of Master of Social Work (Qualifying)).

To be accepted into the program, international students who have not completed a Year 12 or equivalent secondary school level qualification or higher qualification in the English language consistent with the requirements for admission to AQF Level 9 degree course in Australia must have a minimum score of 7.0 or higher in each component (listening, reading, writing and speaking) of the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test upon application.

Applicants must complete a Personal Statement Form (up to 500 words) detailing the following:

  • What is your motivation to choose a career pathway into Social Work and what are the qualities you bring
  • How do your previous studies and experience align with the degree

Applicants may also be required to attend an interview.

In addition, applicants must satisfy the discipline study requirements of at least one-quarter of a degree in a nominated first teaching area and one-sixth of a degree in a nominated second teaching area. Teaching Area One and Teaching Area Two must be from contrasting subject areas or different discipline areas and contain no more than 2 introductory courses in each area.

At the start of second year, students must complete a criminal history check. These checks and certificates must remain current for the duration of the program.

Students must purchase an occupational therapy student uniform.

This program includes supervised work placements. Placements are normally undertaken in a full-time capacity over 1-10 weeks. Where required, reasonable accommodations can be made to allow for part-time or flexible placement options.

Applicants must also submit a personal statement and two referee reports (one academic and one professional). Shortlisted candidates are required to undertake an interview. There are limited places available for this program. Offers will be made on the basis of academic achievement, references and interview which are evaluated holistically by a small team of teaching staff.

All successful applicants are required to apply for and gain provisional registration or if applicable, full registration, with the Psychology Board of Australia via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Students must have registration prior to commencing their study and this must be maintained for the duration of the program.
