Post admission requirements

To commence Professional Experience (PEx) placements in this program, students must hold a valid Blue Card in Queensland or a Working with Children Check (WWCC) in South Australia, or link their existing Blue Card or WWCC to UniSC. The Blue Card system in Queensland is regulated by legislation, Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (the Act) and the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Regulation 2020. The WWCC system in South Australia is regulated by legislation, Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016, Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Regulations 2019, Working with Children Check guidelines. Students must undergo a criminal history check and be issued with a Blue Card by Blue Card Services or a WWCC by the South Australian Government Screening Unit to allow them to undertake Professional Experience (PEx) placement in prior-to-school and school contexts where children under 18 years of age are present. It is highly recommended students be proactive in applying for a BlueCard as soon as they are accepted into the program. PEx placements cannot commence without a valid Blue Card or WWCC.

Masters (Coursework)

Sunshine Coast
Shape the future of clinical healthcare. If you are a degree-qualified nurse who is eligible to register (Division 1), this Master's program equips you with the skills and knowledge to have significant impact on the development and delivery of healthcare services.
Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have successfully completed a Bachelor qualification (AQF level 7) in nursing from a recognised tertiary education provider. Applicants who are Registered Nurses registered in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) who do not have a Bachelor qualification may be considered for admission based on extensive industry experience and will require approval by the Program Leader.

The Master of Nursing (Clinical Leadership) offers a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) as well as domestic fee paying places. Offers for both CSP and fee paying places will be made after the application due date for the program.

CSP will be allocated on the basis of your Grade Point Average in the degree used to meet admission requirements and/or your industry experience. Applicants falling below the demand-driven cut-off for a CSP may be offered a domestic fee paying place subject to capacity limitations.

Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and permanent visa holders enrolled in a fee paying place will have the option of applying for a CSP in subsequent semesters if one becomes available. In these cases, the student's current GPA in the Master of Nursing (Clinical Leadership) will be used to assess eligibility for a CSP place using the same entry cut-off applied for new CPS entrants during that admission period.

International students on a Student visa must demonstrate English language skills at an IELTS level of 7 with no subtest less than 7 or equivalent. Refer to the University's English language requirements.

Special selection criteria

Applicants must write a 1000-word written statement that describes their non-academic capabilities. Effective teachers possess both academic and non-academic capabilities. Research has shown that the best teachers are those who have academic capability, literacy and numeracy skills and personal characteristics (non-academic capabilities). Non-academic capabilities include motivation to teach, self-efficacy, willingness to learn, conscientiousness, engagement with learning, resilience, interpersonal and communication skills, organisational and planning skills, and written communications skills. Research has also shown that a personal written statement describing self- assessment of non-academic capabilities is a suitable means for assessing non-academic capabilities for teaching.

Complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate your motivation for teaching.

Entry to this program requires applicants to meet academic and non-academic criteria.

Full details of entry to this program are on the QTAC website: https://www.qtac.edu.au/teacher-entry/

The program includes activities and assessment that require a minimum level of personal mobility and physical fitness to complete. Please contact the Program Coordinator for more information.

To commence field experience placement within this program, students must have a Working with Children Check.

As required by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act (2000), pre-service teachers must undergo a criminal history check and be issued with a Suitability Card (Blue Card) by the Commission to allow them to undertake field experience in a school or centre in which children under 18 years of age are present. It is highly recommended that students be proactive in applying for a card as soon as they are accepted into the program. It is now a requirement of all Queensland sites and most Australian sites that pre-service teachers have obtained the Blue Card prior to starting professional learning.

Student must be able to travel to attend professional experience placements.

Post admission requirements

Students must complete 80 days of supervised professional experience, completed as full-time blocks as program approved. Most of this experience must be completed in a Queensland school. Students must undergo a criminal history check and obtain a Suitability Card before the first workplace experience, refer to institution.

Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education program are expected to undertake and meet the benchmark in the Personal Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Educators (ITE). Students must complete and pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to graduating.
Additional entry information

Applicants must demonstrate non-academic capabilities as per Personal Statement requirement. Applicants from a non-English speaking background must attain an IELTS score of at least 7.5 with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and 7.0 in all other subtests - refer to English language requirements.
