To study this course you must have the following pre-requisites:

  • trade certificate (Automotive)
  • current automotive apprentice (at least third year)
  • you must obtain a Classroom (CL000) OR Trainee (TL000) Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Trainee Licence through the Australian Refrigeration Council before you can attend workshop training at SM TAFE. About the Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Trainee Licence

Two types of trainee licence are available:

  • Trainee (TL000 Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Trainee License)
    For supervised handling of refrigerant in workplace and classroom, this license is preferred. The supervisor must be the holder of a licence that entitles them to engage in work for which the licensee is being trained.
  • Trainee classroom (CL000 Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Trainee License - Classroom)
    For handling of refrigeration in classroom only. The licensee cannot handle refrigerant outside the classroom setting. This license type requires a signed Trainers Declaration received after enrolment and payment.

Wish to work as pest management technician? If so, you will need to be licensed.. This skillset allows students to complete the "CPPUPM3006 Manage pests by applying pesticides" unit of competency required to apply for a "Western Australia Provisional Pest Management Technician Licence".
Entry Requirements

Eligibility requirements to apply for the provisional license with the Department of Health Western Australia:

To be eligible for a provisional licence you must:

  • be at least 17 years old
  • be a fit and proper person
  • be medically fit to handle restricted-use and other pesticides
  • be adequately qualified to undertake pest management treatments
  • intend to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills to become a licensed technician
