Admission is restricted to staff of the Australian Public Service, through contract arrangements with particular agencies.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent as approved by the Academic Quality and Standards Committee OR hold two or more years of relevant work experience, and be currently employed in an Australian Commonwealth, State, or Territory Government Department.

Assumed knowledge

Essential: Some basic understanding of the functions of Australian Government. This is assumed, given that the course is only open to APS students. Desirable but not essential: Familiarity with fundamental theories and concepts underpinning effective public policy development. Familiarity with basic statistics and statistical concepts.

Entry Requirements

This course has closing dates to submit applications that vary from standard UC application submission dates. For a semester 1 start, applications are due by the 31st October; for a semester 2 start, applications are due by 30th June.

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:
A) completion of a qualifying psychology degree which is accredited by the Australian Psychological Accreditation Council (APAC) or equivalent*. The qualifying degree can be either:
i) a three year undergraduate psychology course or
ii) a Graduate Diploma for candidates who previously completed an undergraduate degree in a different discipline
B) Credit average in the APAC-required second and third year psychology units or graduate diploma units.

Entry is competitive. Applications are ranked by performance (GPA) in the APAC-required second and third year psychology / graduate diploma units. Thus, a higher than minimum GPA is generally needed to be offered a place.

* Equivalency is as determined by the Australian Psychological Society (APS)

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
A) a completed bachelor degree in a health science discipline* with a credit or higher average, and
B) degree level studies in musculoskeletal anatomy, advanced functional anatomy, physiology of exercise and biomechanics.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide evidence that they meet the prerequisite degree level study requirements outlined above. You must upload a copy of the unit outlines/course syllabi of the relevant units only from your previous studies that show you meet these requirements with your application.

Applicants who do not meet the prerequisite requirements are encouraged to apply for entry into the Graduate Certificate of Human Movement 868AA https://www.canberra.edu.au/course/868AA/4

* Health science disciplines include exercise physiology, exercise science, exercise and sports science, medical science, biomedical science, health science, human movement, physiotherapy, physical therapy, applied science, human biology, medicine, rehabilitation science, human nutrition, occupational therapy.

Applications from domestic applicants will be accepted on a yearly basis from 1 August of the preceding year and close on 30 June of the commencing year. Applicants who are eligible for an offer will be placed on a waitlist and offers will be released in rounds on the first business day of each month commencing in November of the preceding year. Any applicant who is not successful in the round, will remain on a waitlist for further rounds while vacancies exist.

Domestic applicants who wish to be considered for a package with the Graduate Certificate in Human Movement Science (868AA) need to apply by 1 November.

Limited Commonwealth-supported places (CSPs) are available for this course and will be awarded on academic merit. To be considered for a CSP, please submit your application by 15 June 2024. Eligible applicants will be notified from 1 July 2024. The University will continue to issue fee-paying (FEE) offers until this date, offers for any eligible CSP applicants will be updated accordingly.
