Domestic applicants

Domestic applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

If you have an ATAR of 65 or above, you are guaranteed an offer of a place in this course.

To be eligible for an offer, you must have an ATAR of 50 or above. This is the minimum ATAR needed for your application to be considered. Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your study plan and subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application

In 2019, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 53.5. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, you must have:

• Completed a course at Associate Degree level or higher at any Australian higher education provider (or an equivalent overseas qualification); or
• Completed at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) of a course at Associate Degree level (or an equivalent overseas qualification). If you have failed any units your application may be subject to further review before an offer is made; or
• Completed the UTAS Diploma of University Studies; or
• Competed the UTAS University Preparation Program, or an equivalent enabling program offered by another Australian university.

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, you must have completed:

• A Certificate III (or equivalent) in a related field; or
• a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or an equivalent qualification) in any field.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

If you have not successfully completed senior secondary, tertiary or TAFE/VET study, but have relevant work and life experience you can complete a personal competency statement.

If you apply based on your previous work and life experience and your application is not successful, we will work with you to find an alternative pathway into your chosen course of study.

Not open for domestic entry.

For entry into the MBA (International), students must meet the following criteria:

• Completed undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution; or
• Completion of the Graduate Certificate of Business Studies at the University of Tasmania, or an equivalent qualifying Graduate Certificate#; or
• Completion of an AQF Level 6 qualification and a minimum of three (3) years senior managerial experience.

#a qualifying Graduate Certificate is any Graduate Certificate from an Australian higher education institution, or the equivalent from any other institution.

International students must also provide one of the following:

• UTASAccess Level 7 with a minimum overall score of 65% and no individual skill below 60%; or
• an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6.5 and no band less than 6; or
• a TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 88 (no individual skill must be lower than: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; and, Writing 22) or
• a PTE Academic overall score of 58 with no score lower than 50, or
• provide evidence that you have studied for 2 years full-time with English as the sole medium of instruction and examination.

These tests must not be more than 24 months old.

Students will commence study at year three or four of the program.

Direct Entry

• Previous Tertiary study in 53J Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Tasmania with a passing GPA (4.0 on a 7 point scale).
• Entry will occur in the fourth year of the program.

Competitive Entry

• Holds a Bachelor degree in a cognate field that includes Exercise and Sports Science units as required for ESSA Exercise Science level accreditation
• Requires evidence that they qualify for credentialing with ESSA at Exercise Science level to be assessed by the Course Coordinator.
• Entry will occur in either the third or fourth year of the program.

All students enrolling in College of Health and Medicine programs which include a professional experience placement component, laboratory and/or field activity are required to establish and maintain their capacity to practice safely via Safety in Practice Requirements documentation.

In accordance with section 8(2) of Legal Profession (Board of Legal Education) Rules 2021 to be eligible to enrol in the post-graduate Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice applicants need to have EITHER:

• successfully completed an academic qualification in law leading to admission to the Australian legal profession, OR
• have no more than 2 academic subjects to complete:

(i) where none of the outstanding subjects is one of the academic areas of knowledge referred to in Schedule 1 of the Legal Profession (Board of Legal Education) Rules 2021; and

(ii) for which the applicant must be enrolled while undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice; and

(iii) the applicant has received the prior permission of the Board of Legal Education to commence the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

If the applicant has completed their academic qualifications in law at a time that will be more than five years before their application to the Board of Legal Education for assessment of their academic qualifications for the purposes of admission, the applicant must, before entry to the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, apply for assessment of their academic qualifications under rule 4(3) of the Legal Profession ( Board of Legal Education) Rules 2021, and receive the Board's approval.

Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree.

If you have completed your Bachelor of Laws or equivalent in a jurisdiction other than Australia, you will need to have your qualification assessed by the Law Society of Tasmania for assessment of overseas qualification through the Tasmanian Board of Legal Education https://lst.org.au/about/contact-us/

English Language Requirements

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

Course Specific Requirements

In accordance with section 8(2) of Legal Profession (Board of Legal Education) Rules 2021 to be eligible to enrol in the post-graduate Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice applicants need to have EITHER::

English Language Requirements - All Applicants

Standard 1.3 of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council requires that students demonstrate English language proficiency. All applicants must provide either a written declaration that English is their primary language, or evidence that they have achieved the minimum English language test results (see details, below), as stipulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language skills registration standard (2019).

All applicants for whom English is not the primary language require one of

• IELTS 7.0 (no individual band less than 7.0), or
• Occupational English Test - OET (with a minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking), or
• TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum score in each section of the test: 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing, and 23 for speaking, or
• Pearson Test of English - PTE Academic (with a minimum overall score of 65 and a minimum score of 65 in each of the four communicative skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking)

English Language Requirements and Mandatory Functional Requirements Declaration

Domestic Applicants: All domestic applicants must complete the Bachelor of Nursing English Language and Mandatory Functional Requirements Declaration. Applicants complete this step during the application process.

International applicants: International applicants are not required to submit this form. However, all international applicants will be asked during the application process to agree to, and accept, both the English Language Requirements and the Mandatory Functional Requirements.

Domestic Applicants

Please note that admission to the Bachelor of Nursing is highly competitive and that achieving the entry requirements does not guarantee an offer for this course. Applicants who meet the entry requirements are ranked and offers are made based on the number of places available.

Please note 90% of all places in this course are reserved for Tasmanian residents. Residency is based on residential address.

Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Diploma, or Advanced Diploma, in any discipline.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

• Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points). If an applicant has failed any units the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

This course does not accept applications on the basis of work and life experience.

DOMESTIC APPLICANTS

Domestic applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

Applicants with an ATAR of 90+ are guaranteed progression to second year upon successful completion of 100 credit points of university study (except Foundation and Enabling units) including LAW121 Introduction to Law and LAW122 Legal Systems.

Due to course quotas, applicants with an ATAR between 65 and 89.95 who successfully complete 100 credit points of university study (except Foundation and Enabling units) including LAW121 Introduction to Law and LAW122 Legal Systems are eligible but not guaranteed entry into second year. All first year students are ranked according to academic merit with the top 200 progressing to second year law.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, you must have completed the equivalent of one full-time year of study (equivalent to 100 UTAS credit points) at Bachelor level or above with a minimum grade point average of 4.0 on a seven-point scale.

You can enquire online for advice on converting your results into grade point average on a seven-point scale.

If your prior study does not include law or legal studies, you may be required to complete a three-day workshop, or introductory law units in your first year of study, in order to meet progression requirements.

Due to course quotas, domestic applicants who successfully complete 100 credit points of university study (except Foundation and Enabling units) including LAW121 Introduction to Law and LAW122 Legal Systems are eligible but not guaranteed entry into second year due to course quotas. All first year students are ranked according to academic merit with the top 200 progressing to second year law.

All other domestic applicants

Students are not admitted to this course on the basis of VET / TAFE study or work and life experience. Please refer to the alternative entry pathways below.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 5.5, with no individual band less than 5.0, or a PTE Academic score of 43, with no score lower than 36 or equivalent.

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.

We anticipate the lowest ATAR that will receive an offer for this course in 2022 will be 60.

To be an eligible for an offer, you must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following Tasmanian Senior Secondary subjects:

• Mathematics General (MTG315115) or equivalent, and
• Physical Sciences (PSC315109) or equivalent (equivalency includes CHM415115 Chemistry OR PHY415115 Physics)

If you have not met a required pre-requisite, you will need to complete a University of Tasmania Foundation Studies Program before you start your course.
