The Bachelor of Paramedic Science at CQUniversity is designed to equip you with the skills to become a Paramedic. If you are already a practising paramedic and would like to gain a formal qualification this course may also be for you.
Entry Requirements
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or the United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion within the last 5 years of:

  • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
  • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or the United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

  • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 7.0 with a minimum 7.0 in each subset; or
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Requires 600 or better overall and minimum TWE score of 5.0 (Paper Based Test), or 100 or better overall and a score of 25 or better in the Writing section (Internet Based Test); or
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 64 with no communication score less than 64; or
  • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

English test results remain valid for no more than two years between the final examination date and the date of commencement of the study and must appear on a single result certificate.

Security Requirements

Students will be required to provide a National Police Certificate, and obtain and hold a valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card), at their own expense, prior to undertaking Work-Integrated Learning units.

Students will be required to immediately notify the Head of Course Paramedic Science if they are under investigation, have been charged with, or found guilty of a criminal offence (other than a minor traffic offence) whether in Australia or outside Australia.


Health Requirements

Students will be required to undergo and pass a mandatory Health Screening assessment, at their own expense, and provide evidence of current mandatory vaccinations, prior to undertaking Work-Integrated Learning units.

Students will be required to immediately notify the Head of Course Paramedic Science if any significant medical condition, impairment, injury or illness will affect their ability to undertake Work-Integrated Learning units or fully participate in practical components of the Bachelor of Paramedic Science course.

Entry Requirements

The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

The criteria for admission are:

  • successful completion of the Griffith Bachelor of Paramedicine (1533) or an equivalent qualification from another university;
  • a GPA of at least 5.0 over the second and third year of the Bachelor degree.

The Program Director will take the following into consideration when assessing applications for admission:

  • the suitability of the proposed dissertation topic;
  • the resources available to support the candidature including availability of appropriate supervision;
  • the preparedness of the applicant to undertake the degree in terms of the elapsed time since the prospective candidate qualified for the award of a Bachelor degree and the academic preparation provided by the Bachelor degree for the candidate's proposed dissertation topic.

This is an accredited degree for anyone seeking a career as a paramedic with an Australian state ambulance service or a research career in pre-hospital science. Graduates may also qualify for employment with ambulance services in international jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom.

Rural and remote sub-quotas An annual subquota is available for applicants from rural and remote areas. To be considered for the rural and remote subquota applicants must apply to SATAC in the normal way. Applicants must also, within 10 working days after submitting the SATAC application, submit a Statutory Declaration to SATAC which confirms that they have lived in non-metropolitan areas of Australia (Remoteness Classifications RA2 to RA5) for at least 5 consecutive years, or 10 years cumulatively, from birth (i.e. during any period of their life).
